Weekly Play RulesRACQUETEERS WEEKLY PLAY
Weekly play is the core activity of the Racqueteers club. According to the Club bylaws, each member must sign up for one weekly play session per calendar year and accumulate 12 points per year to maintain her membership. All changes and modifications to the weekly play program are determined by the Board. Currently, there are weekly play days: Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. The Thursday play day is in flight format. There are 4 weekly play sessions in a calendar year: Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall. Each session runs about 10 weeks, depending upon the annual calendar. In order to establish a new weekly play day, a petition signed by 4 members requesting the new day is presented to the Board. The proposed new day is presented as an option for signups, along with the signups for the existing play days. The new play day must attract a minimum of 8 players. Once established, the play day may continue with 4 players. If, at any time, a play day fails to garner 4 signups, the day will be dropped from the weekly play schedule and will require 8 signups to be reinstated. DUTIES OF WEEKLY PLAY CHAIRPERSON: The Weekly Play Chairperson sets the dates for the beginning and end of the sessions. She notifies the membership of the dates for the upcoming session. Signups are e-mailed to the Chairperson. If, at the time of the response deadline, the total number of players signed up for any one of the play days is not divisible by 4, the Chairperson may place the extra players on the sub list. At the beginning of each session, the Weekly Play Chairperson assigns a Scorekeeper for each play day. For Tuesdays and Saturdays, the Weekly Play Chairperson uses the rotational model for assigning captains for each match and this must be published in the newsletter. For Thursdays, she assigns a Court Captain for each flight for the first day of the session. DUTIES OF SCOREKEEPER:
The Scorekeeper keeps track of scores reported by Court Captains and, at the end of the season, sends the Membership Chairperson the total number of points earned by each member or sub. The Scorekeeper and/or the Court Captain decides whether to play on days when conditions are uncertain. The call to cancel a match should be made by 8am and the Court Captain will then inform the players. For Thursday flight, after receiving the weekly scores, the Scorekeeper establishes the new flight groups, assigns a Court Captain for each flight and informs the players for the next match. At the end of the session, the Scorekeeper sends the Newsletter Chairperson the names of the 4 players finishing in the top flight. DUTIES OF COURT CAPTAIN: The Court Captain chooses the court location, informs the other players and the Scorekeeper. She provides a can of new balls for the match and acts as final arbiter for all match decisions including, but not limited to, establishing partners, determining serve/side, permitting “no-ad” scoring, determining a default and settling disputes. The Court Captain keeps score and reports points and results to the Scorekeeper in a timely manner. The Court Captain is responsible for having the E/C (emergency contact numbers) of the players on her court. POINTS: Each member player, whether signed up or a sub, receives one point for each time she plays a match. She receives 1 point for a cancelled, defaulted or forfeited match. If she forfeits, she receives 0 points. A non-member who subs for a player receives 1 point for every game she wins in the match. In case of a cancelled or defaulted match, the non-member sub receives 1 point for every game she has already won or 10 points, whichever is higher. If the non-member sub defaults or forfeits, she receives 0 points. |
